Veteran British actor Leslie Phillips died "peacefully in his sleep" on November 7, 2022, said his agent Jonathan Lloyd. Leslie Phillips was 98. He is best known for his roles in the 'Carry On' films and as the voice of the sorting hat in the 'Harry Potter' films.
During his 80-year-long career, the actor starred over 200 films, radio and TV series. 'He was known for catchphrases such as "Ding dong" - a reference to the name of his character Jack Bell in 1959's Carry on Nurse - "I say" and "Well, hello", which he delivered with suggestive intonation,' reports the BBC.
Owing to his remarkable works, in the 1998 Birth Honours list he was made an OBE. Later in 2008 New Year Honours, he was promoted to CBE.
Unfortunately, at the age of 90, Philips had suffered two strokes in a gap of just six months.
Remembering the legendary actor, his wife Zara said in an interview to the Sun, "I've lost a wonderful husband and the public has lost a truly great showman. He was quite simply a national treasure. People loved him. He was mobbed everywhere he went."
Many of his fans and followers took to social media to share their condolences and pay tributes to the veteran actor.
