It was a case of “another one bites the dust” as Lanarkshire charity king Les Hoey took on a monster food challenge.
The DreamMaker Foundation boss has risen to a number of tasty food trials over the years and was recently asked if he was up to attempting an “Out of this World Burger”.
The enormous plate was served up by Shelly Ford, who works at Hank Marvin, a newly-opened eat-in diner in Uddingston.
And it was no easy task for Les, from Wishaw, who hadn’t faced anything like this for a number of years.
He played a tactical game avoiding the chips and first tucking straight in to several different types of burger under the bun.
“When I looked at it, it looked easier than ones I’d done in the past,” Les said. “But once I started getting into it I realised there were about four burgers.
“I’ve done that many over the years and I didn’t dive in like I’ve done before.
“The first one was lovely and went down a treat, it was tasty, but when I got to the third burger it was massive with a lot of meat in it. And every time there was another burger there was another bit of roll with it.
“Then you had all the sauces and tomatoes, the problem was the chips though. I was going to tackle them first and thought no, I’ll get the burgers out the way first.”
Shelly had set Les a time of 30 minutes to finish it all and he managed to scoff the the burger in about 17 or 18 minutes.
“The photographer Stuart then asked me if I wanted some water but I’ve done that in the past and you end up bagged up,” he continued.
“There was macaroni with the burger as well, so I put that to the side and started on the chips.
“But by that time the chips had gone cold and were harder to eat. For the last four minutes I was sitting with the last bunch in my hand along with a bit of roll and tomato, and the pasta. But I shovelled it into my mouth and finished it.
“Shelly then asked me if I wanted a pudding so I had an ice cream as well, and then a can of cola.
“It’s done, another one bites the dust, and I think that’s me finished for good with food challenges now.
“The best thing about it is a DreamMaker family will get a meal from Hank Marvin’s each week. They can either go over and sit in or they can get a takeaway.”
