Leroy Sane makes major Liverpool Champions League admission

Bayern Munich forward Leroy Sane has admitted that he'd like to play against Liverpool in the Champions League this season.

The Germany international knows the Reds well from his time at Manchester City, scoring four goals in eight games against Jurgen Klopp's men.

However, Sane was on the losing side as Liverpool beat City 5-2 on aggregate in the quarter-finals of the Champions League in 2018. But that has not put the 26-year-old off from wanting to face the Reds in Europe once again.

Sane is in a Bayern side that will be regarded by many as one of the favourites to win the Champions League in 2022-23 after the signings of Sadio Mane from Liverpool and Matthijs de Ligt from Juventus.

Speaking to The Athletic, Sane spoke of how 'exhausting' it is to play against the Reds, but that he would still want to take them on. He said: "Liverpool is always a great game, really hard and exhausting. I’d (also) love to play against Real Madrid again, and I would also enjoy meeting City. It would be difficult. But that’s the kind of pressure I’m looking for, it’s the most fun you can have as a player.”

The Reds could be drawn to play against Bayern in the group stages of this season's Champions League. The German giants will be in pot one due to being champions in their country. The Reds will be in pot two for the draw, which takes place on Thursday, August 25.

The last time the two teams went head-to-head in Europe's elite competition was in 2019. Liverpool progressed at the last-16 stage, winning 3-1 in Munich after a 0-0 draw on Merseyside, which continued their march to the club's sixth European Cup.
