Leonardo DiCaprio was considered for the role of Lex Luthor in the movie 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,' according to director Zack Snyder. Snyder, who previously led the DC Extended Universe, is no longer in charge as James Gunn and Peter Safran now head DC studios and are planning a complete reboot of the comic book franchise, starting with the 2025 film 'Superman' starring David Corenswet.
Snyder's attempt at bringing DC's heroes to the big screen began with 'Man of Steel' in 2013, followed by 'Batman v Superman' in 2015. The latter received criticism, particularly for Jesse Eisenberg's portrayal of Lex Luthor. Many found his performance awkward and miscast.
However, the role of Luthor could have been different had DiCaprio accepted the part. Snyder revealed that he had discussions with the actor, who had intriguing ideas for the character but ultimately decided against it.
DiCaprio, known for his rule of avoiding superhero movies, has focused on serious roles throughout his career. His performances have garnered critical acclaim, earning him six Oscar nominations and a win for best actor in 2017 for 'The Revenant.'
Although DiCaprio declined the opportunity to play a comic book villain, fans can look forward to Nicholas Hoult taking on the role in Gunn's upcoming 'Superman' reboot in 2025.
