Leon King savours Ibrox bow as he takes another step forward for Rangers

Leon King

LEON KING is confident his first Premiership start for Rangers can be another stepping stone in his rise and rise at Ibrox.

The defender was handed a berth alongside Connor Goldson for the Premiership clash with Dundee United on Sunday as boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst utilised his Light Blues squad.

King produced an accomplished showing as a James Tavernier penalty and strike from Amad Diallo secured a comfortable victory for the Europa League finalists.

Van Bronckhorst has vowed to use the likes of King and Alex Lowry during the final two league fixtures of the campaign against Ross County and Hearts this week.

And the 18-year-old is thankful for the support he has had from an experienced Ibrox dressing room throughout another memorable campaign.

"I’ve been a fan of the club since I was a wee boy," King told RangersTV. "To finally get that start in front of a packed Ibrox was amazing.

"They were amazing. I see them every day on the training ground and I have grown accustomed to it and getting as much information out of them as I can. It helps a lot playing alongside Connor and Tav.

"Words don’t really describe it to be honest. I was lucky enough to be part of the squad last year and it has just carried on from there. I could never have imagined it would be this good.

"I am still only young. I am part of the squad that has got to a European final, it is something I will never forget and something my family will never forget as well.

"It is only going to benefit me. As I say, I am still very young as a footballer, I have got my whole career ahead of me.

"This is a great stepping stone and learning curve and experience so I can take that forward."
