Leon Edwards Open To Boxing After Becoming 2x UFC Champ

Leon Edwards has revealed his desire to begin a boxing career in the future but only after becoming a two-time UFC champion.

Leon Edwards Open To Boxing After Becoming Two-Time UFC Champion

Leon Edwards lost his UFC welterweight title at UFC 304 in July of this year after a one-sided defeat against Belal Muhammad.

Rocky is set to main event an event in March 2024 at the O2 Arena but has not been handed an opponent just yet – with two contenders fighting at UFC 310.

Shavkat Rakhmonov and Ian Garry went toe-to-toe in the co-main event and it was the Kazakhstan fighter who picked up a unanimous decision victory.

Edwards spoke about his future in the UFC and what he hopes to achieve in 2025, highlighting the importance of becoming a two-time champion.

He said: “I’ll be fighting in March in London at the O2 [Arena]. Headlining,” Edwards said. “I don’t know the opponent yet.

“I’ll get it in the next few weeks. My next aim is to get the belt back. You know, two-time world champion, that’s my aim.”

However, the former UFC welterweight also spoke about the possibility of venturing into the world of boxing after watching the recent bout between Galal Yafai and Sunny Edwards.

Edwards said: “I’d love to [box]. After tonight, I’d love to. Like I said, my next aim is to be world champion again and then from there I’ll move on and see what’s next.

“Ask the coach, I am a good boxer as well. I’d love to one day test it out. Either Misfits Boxing or boxing. Why not?

“What weight would I be in boxing? Super middleweight? What’s that, Canelo? I’ll go Canelo. Let’s go Canelo. All good.”

Focusing on MMA, Edwards’ opponent for the event in London has not been confirmed but a host of names have been suggested.

Jorge Masvidal confirmed that he is returning to the UFC and the history between the two could make for an interesting match-up.

Ian Garry’s performance against Shavkat caught the eye of several UFC supporters, meaning an England vs Ireland bout in the English capital could make sense.
