Leon Edwards can’t let go of 2019 altercation with Jorge Masvidal: ‘I have to get it back in the octagon or in the street’

It’s been more than three years since he received the infamous “three piece and a soda” from Jorge Masvidal, yet Leon Edwards is still not at peace with the situation.

Despite becoming the UFC welterweight champion, Edwards (20-3 MMA, 12-2 UFC) hasn’t been able to come to terms with Masvidal sucker punching him backstage at a UFC Fight Night event in London back in 2019. Edwards is still bothered by the situation and very much feels the need to settle the score with “Gamebred.”

And he doesn’t care whether it happens in the octagon or not.

“I can’t let it go,” Edwards told the Breakfast Club. “It’s not let go, and this happened three years go. Yeah, it’s not let go, and I have to get it back in the octagon or in the street. It has to be got back.”

Edwards was on the short end of the stick back at UFC Fight Night 147. Masvidal struck Edwards backstage after Edwards bad-mouthed Masvidal while the Miami native was doing a live interview on ESPN. Edwards wasn’t able to fire back as they were quickly separated, and Masvidal faced no legal consequences or discipline from the UFC. Masvidal went viral after calling the attack a “three-piece and a soda” in a reaction interview.

Edwards said he’s cool with everyone and the division, and despite the nature of the business, nothing is personal – except with Masvidal.

“I don’t like him,” Edwards said. “We had a scuffle backstage. That was in London, as well, my hometown, but they took him, moved him, hid him, and fled him out of my country.

“I haven’t seen him since. That was three years ago. Apart from that, everyone else, it’s an easy fight. Backstage is all, ‘Good luck in your life, your family and your career.’  It’s all love.”
