Tanaiste Leo Varadkar has shared a rare snap of his partner, Matt, as the couple enjoy a getaway in the west of Ireland.
Varadkar and partner Matt Barrett visited the northwestern part of Co Mayo on the trip, including Belmullet and the Gaeltacht area.
Posing for a selfie in a car park that overlooks mountains and the sea, Varadkar shared the photo to his Instagram account.
He captioned the photo in Irish, writing: “Mise agus Mait. Iorras abú.”
Under the couple's photo, many people sent their good wishes, with one calling them a “lovely couple”.
“Have a lovely weekend. Enjoy the break. Fab picture, fab couple,” another said.
One commenter said: “Hope you both had a lovely day. Beautiful place to be.”
Many of proud people from Mayo left comments too. One said: “West is best.”
“No place like Mayo,” another wrote.
Varadkar shared other images from the weekend on his Instagram feed showing him meeting Fine Gael members in Belmullet and posing for pictures with a bride and groom.
The caption said: “Great to meet @finegael members yesterday in #Belmullet on a trip to the West.
“Visited some of the local hotels in #Belmullet & #Geesala, ran into a wedding and met one of Mayo Fine Gael’s longest serving members with Michael Ring, Alan Dillon, Senator Paddy Burke & Cllr Gerry Coyle #mayo.”
On his Instagram story, Varadkar shared a photo of him posing with a Gaeltacht sign and wrote in Irish that it was great to be back in the area.
