Lenny Kravitz's wooden cabinets master a design trend that brings an 'organic ambiance' to his kitchen

Lenny Kravitz .

The raw wood interior trend ain't over 'till it's over – Lenny Kravitz's home is proof.

The award-winning musician posted a photo of his kitchen, featuring light wood walls, countertops, and a built-in shelving unit. As natural materials persist in popularity via the Organic Modern trend, we're taking inspiration from Lenny in taking this raw material and utilizing it for all surfaces beyond flooring.

Paul Jenkinson, founder of LochAnna Kitchens, says that wood kitchens are one of the top interior trends of the year, citing a widespread desire for warm and natural elements in the home.

'This kitchen trend seamlessly integrates both bold and subtle uses of wooden elements, spanning cabinets, countertops, paneling, and wood grain effects, creating a lush and organic ambiance in the kitchen,' Paul says.

Ever the hardwearing material, wood such as oak or maple is a seamless fit in homes where practicality is as important as aesthetics.

'Incorporating wood into the overall kitchen design not only adds depth and warmth but also introduces a natural element that transforms the kitchen into a relaxing haven,' Paul explains. 'We expect to see solid timber kitchens taking center stage within 2024, as homeowners desire durability in equal measure to style.'

When it comes to choosing a finish, Tom Howley, Design Director at the eponymous studio, recommends considering other kitchen factors, such as size and wall color, to determine whether to go light or dark.

'Lighter wood finishes work well to expand the perceived space of your kitchen,' says Tom. 'Choosing a smoked or deeply stained wood for the 'carcass' of your cabinets will enrich the complementary paint color on your exterior cabinets, so it makes sense for the shelving to do the same.'

With regards to color, he gives the example of a deep, rich green as a match for walnut or mahogany-stained wood; whereas light woods go perfectly with neutral, cream color schemes to make a space look bright and airy.
