Lennon taps into Celtic connection as Omonia boss signs former Parkhead ace

Lennon taps into Celtic connection as Omonia boss signs former Parkhead ace

NEIL LENNON has used his Celtic connection to land new signing Adam Matthews on a two-year deal.

The former Parkhead boss has linked up with the right-back again at Cypriot side Omonia.

Lennon joined the club last season and tasted Cup success in his return to the dugout after his Celtic exit.

And ahead of the new season he's added Matthews to his squad as the full-back agreed a move in principle and will head to Cyprus shortly.

Lennon and Matthews worked together for three years at Celtic after the manager signed the full-back on a free transfer from Cardiff City.

An Omonia Nicosia statement read: "We have reached an agreement in principle for a two-year partnership with the 30-year-old Welsh international right-back, Adam Matthews, who in recent years played for Charlton Athletic.

"The footballer has a long presence in Celtic FC, with which he won four championships and two cups and played in the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League groups.

"He also played in the Sunderland AFC and Cardiff City, and played in 14 games for his national team.

"Adam Matthews will soon be in Cyprus to complete the agreement."
