Motherwell knocked back a bid worth £2.5m for top talent Lennon Miller earlier this week.
So, Derek Ferguson concedes he can't wrap his head around why Rangers haven't tried to swoop in for the 18-year-old's signature.
Serie A outfit Udinese failed in their attempt to sign the Scotland Under-21 international.
The Fir Park club says that the £2.5m offer was below their valuation of the player, which is believed to be closer to the £4m mark.
Both Rangers and Celtic are believed to be admirers of the Scottish Premiership starlet.
And with the bidding kicking off at £2.5m, Ferguson - dad of Scotland international Lewis - can't understand why Rangers haven't tried to get in there early to fend off competition.
While the pundit admitted £2.5m is too low for a player of Miller's quality, he pointed out there are other ways to beef up the offer to please the Steelmen.
Asked if the offer was too low on Open Goal, he responded: "Aye, but there are different ways to structure this - with sell-on clauses and with appearances.
"See if it was £2.5m and then based on how many games he plays that Motherwell gets more - sometimes with sell-on clauses he goes and they make the money again.
"I’ve been watching him for a couple of years. His talent is clear to see. Why are (Rangers) not going to get him? It's worked out great that he has progressed."

Fellow panelist James McFadden chimed in: "Sometimes with young players coming through in Scotland they think 'Celtic or Rangers - that is the pinnacle'. I don't think he's like that.
"I think he is looking for the best place to progress, be successful. For me, Udinese have jumped in and tried to get him before the rest. There will be other offers."
