US Special Envoy for Yemen Tim Lenderking held talks with Omani officials in Muscat efforts to support peace in neighboring Yemen.
He held talks with Sheikh Khalifa Ali Al Harthy, Undersecretary of the Foreign Ministry for Diplomatic Affairs, reported the Sultanate’s state news agency (ONA).
They reviewed efforts to help Yemeni parties reach a political solution that maintains peace and stability for Yemen and the region.
The meeting was attended by the delegation accompanying the guest and several officials from the Foreign Ministry.
Lenderking had kicked off a tour of the region on November 27. Besides Oman, he is set to visit Saudi Arabia.
The US State Department called on Monday the Iran-backed Houthi militias in Yemen to “immediately cease their attacks on Yemeni ports” and to engage in peace efforts.
“The environment created by the UN-mediated truce presents the best opportunity Yemen has had for peace in several years,” it added in a statement.
