Lena Waithe and wife Alana Mayo split two months after secret courthouse wedding

Master of None star Lena Waithe and her wife Alana Mayo have called quits on their marriage just two months after announcing they had secretly tied the knot in San Francisco.

Speaking to E! News, a spokesperson for the former couple revealed they had come to the decision after “careful thought and consideration.”

The statement read in full, “After careful thought and consideration, we have decided to part ways. We have nothing but support for one another and ask that you respect our privacy during this time."

The couple got engaged in 2017 and while on The Ellen Show, Waithe revealed the pair were married in a “humbling” courthouse ceremony in San Francisco.

Speaking to John Legend (who was filling in for Ellen DeGeneres), she explained, “We snuck and did it. We didn’t really make any announcements, we just did it.”

Mayo is the head of production and development at Outlier Productions, a company helmed by Black Panther star Michael B. Jordan.

At the time, Waithe called her wife “beautiful” and said, “We went to San Francisco. We went to the courthouse and got married right in front of Harvey Milk’s bust. It was her idea, like all good things are.”

“It was a humbling day to marry someone so amazing,” she continued, “but also to really appreciate so much work people have put in for us to be able to do that.”

Waithe has starred in projects including Aziz Ansari’s Master of None, Westworld, Dear White People and Ready Player One.
