Leitrim's Emlyn Mulligan has made the decision to retire from inter-county football.
The long-serving attacker cited “past injuries” as the reasoning behind the call, having suffered three separate cruciate ligament ruptures over the course of his career, most recently in 2017.
He previously left the panel in 2019 and subsequently wasn’t called upon by then boss Terry Hyland, though he made a return under current manager Andy Moran ahead of the 2022 season.
He passed 100 League and Championship appearances for the county last year and featured in the recent League campaign as Leitrim made a charge at promotion from Division Four though, at 35, his cameo off the bench in the defeat to Wicklow earlier this month has proven to be his last occasion for him to don the county colours.
In a statement posted on his Twitter account, Mulligan said: “Unfortunately my days of representing Leitrim GAA have come to an end, past injuries have caught up with me and my body just can’t deal with the demands required to compete at inter county level anymore. It was a pleasure.
“Thanks for all the support since making my league debut in 2006 until now. Looking forward to heading to New York next week, now as a supporter, to cheer on Andy and the lads.”
