Leitrim GAA ban supporters from attending knockout stages of football championships

Leitrim GAA has announced that no spectators will be permitted to attend the knockout stages of their football championships.

Under government guidelines 200 people are currently allowed to attend outdoor sporting events, but Leitrim will now just offer 40 passes to each club playing in a match to be given to players and officials.

The county board say the decision is "the fairest solution to all concerned" and they plan to stream the matches online.

They said in a statement: “It is widely recognised that when arriving at the concluding stages of any competition, interest levels rise accordingly. Interest in our games at group stages has been heightened due to the long layoff from sporting activity.

“We also believe that interest levels will have risen sufficiently high enough to ensure that the current restriction of a maximum of 200 people per venue, inclusive of players and officials, will not be near enough to satisfy demand.”
