LeithLate celebration is back this weekend with free and pay-what-you-can events for all

After a two-year break forced by the pandemic, the much-loved Leith community celebration will be back in full swing encouraging the locals to come together to reconnect and celebrate.

Launching on Friday, June 24, LeithLate is a three-day celebration of arts, culture and community, offering an events-packed weekend for everyone to enjoy.

Ensuring every community member can join the festivities, all of the festival's events are free of charge or are on a pay-what-you-can basis.

Named "Move, Imagine, Share", this year's celebration hopes to bring back the community's sense of belonging and connectivity that may have been weakened during the pandemic isolation periods.

Camilla Crosta, the LeithLate producer, said: "It is the first time I have collaborated with LeithLate. I feel very fortunate to be in this position and to have had the opportunity to get to know, connect and learn more about Leith, the creative projects, the ideas, the people and the changes that are happening in the neighbourhood.

"Leith is unique in how people, groups and places are open to collaborations and projects. I enjoyed every conversation I had in the past months with the people I met. It was interesting to learn and understand how things have changed and adapted and how much the pandemic and the current tram work affect the work and the practice of organisations, businesses and creative people.

"I hope the programme will reflect and acknowledge this moment of passage, a gentle return to cultural events and projects, to meet again and encounter."

On Friday, June 24, the celebration will kick off with an exhibition of artworks created by LGBT Youth Scotland and a live dance performance from talented Leith choreographer and performer Andrea Torres Viedma.

Visitors will also get a chance to celebrate the summer solstice with a group of mystically-minded artists and look back at Leith's transformation over the past years with a series of posters installed outdoors and in shop windows around Leith Walk.

All the events are scattered around Leith and present a perfect opportunity to get to know the local area - and people.
