Marc Leishman's quest for a breakthrough win in Australia has gained traction after a bogey-free 64 launched him into outright third at the Australian PGA Championship.
Leishman (68, 69, 67, 64) continued his fine recent form that included two runner-up finishes on the LIV Golf tour, his round-of-the-day pushing the Victorian to within a shot of Japanese runner-up Rikuya Hoshino and three back from champion Min Woo Lee.
He said a putting realignment had sparked the form surge, Leishman draining a long birdie effort on the 18th to underline that and cap a pleasing campaign.
"Nice to finish the week off on a high like that ... 16 under around this golf course, I'm fairly happy with," he said.
"Obviously Min Woo played very well, so that happens in golf sometimes."
Former world No.13 Leishman has long supported the Australian swing but never lifted a trophy.
He hopes that changes in Sydney when the Australian Open, co-hosted by the The Lakes and The Australian, begins on Thursday.
"I've been playing well most of the year," Leishman said.
"I definitely think if I can play well and get the putter hot, there's no reason why I can't come away with a victory.
"But there's a lot of good players as well, so you've got to play good and get the breaks and hopefully no one else goes crazy."
