Leinster poised to rubber-stamp Aviva Stadium move for Champions Cup clash with Connacht

Leinster are expected to confirm tomorrow that they are moving their home leg of the Champions Cup last 16 clash with Connacht to the Aviva Stadium.

Mirror Sport understands that Leinster intend to play the game, which is the second leg of the fixture, at the Lansdowne Road venue rather than at their RDS Arena home on the third weekend in April.

That decision hasn't been confirmed at committee level yet, but the Professional Games Board is scheduled to meet tomorrow to finalise the move, barring any late hiccups.

Leinster have made the Aviva Stadium a home from home in recent years, with many of their pool and knock-out games moved to the 51,700 capacity ground.

With Covid restrictions lifted, sporting venues are now permitted to return to full capacity and as long as that stands, the Blues will expect to draw a massive crowd for the first-ever meeting of the two provinces in Europe.

Connacht are expected to go ahead with the first leg of the tie at the Sportsground, which holds less than 10,000 supporters when full.

It will be the westerners' first ever appearance in the knock-out stages of the tournament.
