Leighton Clarkson seals stunning Aberdeen FC transfer from Liverpool as Barry Robson hails 'brilliant prospect'

Leighton Clarkson has signed a four-year contract with Aberdeen after a successful loan spell last season.

The former Liverpool loanee has returned to PIttodrie on a long-term contract deal for an undisclosed fee after spending the 2022/23 campaign on loan. The Dons were made to wait to get their man as Clarkson, 21, weighed up other offers, with Reading understood to be keen on the midfielder. But he's decided that the North East remains the best place for him and has signed up for the Reds’ European adventure. They enter the Europa League at the playoff round after finishing third in the Scottish Premiership, knowing that defeat will see then drop into the Europa Conference League group stage.

Speaking after sealing his switch from Anfield – where he had been since the age of six – Dons boss Barry Robson said: “There is no doubt Leighton had a positive impact during his time with us last season and its hugely encouraging that he has now chosen this club as his home, and the best place for his continued development. He is a brilliant prospect and exactly the type of player we want here at the club.

"He’s young, hungry, and technically very good. He was much admired for the creativity he brought on the pitch and showed a real affinity with the supporters during his time at Pittodrie last season. We are shaping the squad up for playing both in Europe and domestically and will be looking to announce more new faces in the very near future.”
