Leighton Clarkson breaks Aberdeen transfer silence as Liverpool loanee teases permanent deal before major caveat

Aberdeen loanee Leighton Clarkson has opened the door to a return to Pittodrie next season - but admits a deal is "out of his control."

Record Sport understands the Dons have an agreement in place to sign the midfielder from Liverpool permanently but that is subject to the 21-year-old agreeing terms. Boss Barry Robson faces competition to bring the star back to the Granite City with Reading, who have just been relegated to League One, among the clubs who are interested in the playmaker while he is also attracting interest from English Championship sides.

However, Clarkson has stated there is a 'really high possibility' that he could be playing for Aberdeen next season as he gushed about the club sealing European football with a third placed finish in the Scottish Premiership. However, he admitted that several factors were out of his control in getting a deal over the line to leave Anfield.

Speaking to Red TV, Clarkson aid: “I don’t know – I’ve not spoken to many people about it. I’ve told agents and stuff ‘don’t even tell me about interest’, because I just wanted to get Europe for Aberdeen.

“Now we’ve done that I can start thinking while I’m away on holiday. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it (at Aberdeen). If everything was to be right – and a lot of it is out of my control – it’s a really high possibility that I could be back.”
