Leigh Halfpenny video has fellow players in awe as he does everything to play again after horror day

Leigh Halfpenny has posted a promising update of his recovery from a serious knee ligament injury.

The 33-year-old hasn't played since suffering the horror injury just minutes in to his 100th Test cap against Canada last July.

The game was halted for several minutes as a tearful Halfpenny was tended to by medics.

However, a minute-long video, posted to his Instagram account, shows the progress he's made in the time since.

Starting with the full-back on crutches, it chronicles his journey in rehab to this point - with the Scarlets star putting himself through all manner of physical exertions in the gym to strengthen his knee up ahead of a return to the sport.

"6 months into my ACL rehab," he wrote in the caption for the video.

"Still a lot of work to be done but making good progress and looking forward to the challenges ahead. Grateful to everyone that’s helped me get to this stage."

The post has been met with plenty of positive comments from the world of rugby.

Jamie Roberts, Quade Cooper, Charles Ollivon, Guilhem Guirado and Mathieu Bastareaud were just some of the names to send messages of support, with Guirado describing him as "a machine".

Sharing the video on his own account, former Wales captain Sam Warburton posted: "Class video showing the patience, diligence and amount of work to return from injury from one of the best pros the game has seen.

In addition to his rehab, Halfpenny has been working with Wales U20s in a coaching capacity.

Despite some concerns the seriousness of the injury could threaten his future international career at his age, he is determined to get back and win at least four more caps to reach his century for the national team.

Halfpenny is unlikely to play again this season, although there is an outside chance he could return if things remain on track.
