Leigh Griffiths scores from halfway line on Hibs return as ex-Celtic star sends free agent reminder

Leigh Griffiths scored a halfway line cracker on his Hibs return as the free agent sent out a reminder to clubs in need of a striker.

The former Celtic and Hibees striker remains a free agent after an extended period out of the game. He spent a short period in Australia, playing a couple of matches for Mandurah City, but is now back home as he seeks a fresh opportunity. He's in at Livingston keeping match sharp and using their facilities under David Martindale.

But the hitman was back at Easter Road this weekend and involved in the Hanlon Stevenson Foundation ‘Family Reunion Match’ as a host of favourites gathered all in the name of a good cause. It was a memorable occasion for the former players and fans in attendance with the game finishing in a 4-4 draw but once again it was the former Scotland international who grabbed the headlines with two goals including a stunning effort just before the break from kick-off.

His wonder strike was inch-perfect after he spotted John Burridge off his line and watched on as the ball sailed over his head and sneaked in under the crossbar.

Speaking previously, Griffiths admitted he was questioning his professional future in the game due to no offers on the table after five months as a free agent.

He said:"The longer it goes on I think, 'Is football for me anymore? I've been without a club for five months now and, although Davie [Martindale] has said I can come in and train with them, he has said there is no deal on the table.

"I'm still not seeing managers pick up the phone, which means do they want me at their club or is it time to call it a day?

"That is something I'm still considering at the minute. As a free agent you've not got a budget, you've not got a price-tag on your head, everything is still negotiable."
