John Baird has opened up on the capture of Leigh Griffiths as the Mandurah City player/boss admitted: 'It's as simple as that'.
The former Celtic and Hibs striker is back at the Australia minnows for the full campaign after a short-stint at the end of last season. He made an impact during his first spell and after an extended period without a club he has made a big return.
The capture of the former Scotland international has brought media attention from all over the globe with many in touch with Baird. That means all eyes are on Mandurah City and the league that they play in which will help raise the profile. The capture of the 32-year-old was a no-brainer for Baird who says you've always got to try and snap up good players when they are available as he opened up on how Griffiths lifted the standards during his first stint and how things won't be any different for the season ahead.

He explained: “Since it’s been announced, I’ve had media from all over the world in touch and at the heart of that is the Mandurah City Football Club badge and the eyes on the league we’re in.
"When good players become available you’ve got to try and bring them into the football club, it’s as simple as that.
“This year is a totally different situation now to last year because we’ve got Leigh for the season, whereas last year he came to help us enhance the club and get it out there.
“But what he did do last season was lift standards, which drove us on to win the Top Four Cup.
"I don’t see it any different this time around. The boys want to work and train again to that level."
