Leigh Griffiths a St Mirren transfer target as former Celtic star 'on the list' confirms Jim Goodwin

Jim Goodwin has confirmed St Mirren are considering a move for Leigh Griffiths amid fears Eamonn Brophy could be set for a spell on the sidelines.

Griffiths is a free agent after leaving Celtic and Record Sport revealed earlier this week he has rejected a return to Dundee.

Queen's Park are interested and recent reports have linked their League One rivals Falkirk with a move.

However he could have at least one more offer from the Premiership with St Mirren on the hunt for a new striker after Brophy went off with a sore one against Motherwell.

Boss Goodwin admits he's fearing the worst with his main striker looking set for a spell on the sidelines.

He told Renfrewshire Live Sport: "It looks as if Brophy has damaged one of the ligaments on the outside of his right ankle.

"We're waiting on the results of the scan to come back with a definitive diagnosis, but it doesn't look particularly great at the moment.

"Kevin, our physio, is doing the best he can with the information he's got but until we get the scan result back, which hopefully we'll have by the end of the day, we can put a better timeframe on it.

"I wouldn't want to put a timeframe of a month or six weeks on it, it might only be two or three weeks.

"We'll rush him as much as we can and Eamonn is the type of boy who won't need to be 100 per cent and pain free to play. He's willing to go through the pain barrier for the team.

"If it's going to be four or five weeks out then we'll go to the free agent market. It's not one I particularly like looking through because they're free agents for a reason."

And when asked if Griffiths could come into his thinking Goodwin confirmed: "He is on the list. He's a free agent and I know there are a number of clubs who are speaking to him at the minute.

"We'll wait and see what comes from that."
