Leigh Griffith 's girlfriend Caitlyn Melville has revealed that she is cancer free after receiving treatment for skin cancer for a second time.
The partner of the former Celtic star celebrated the news by sharing a picture of her holding a plate with the message "Congratulations on kicking cancer's butt". She said: "Finally I got the news that I can close this chapter again.. hopefully forever this time."
Many of her followers took the time to leave messages of support to the 28-year-old. One wrote: "Over the moon for you gorgeous girl." Another said: "Congrats Caitlyn I’m so happy for you , you deserve all the happiness in the world most down to earth person I’ve met."
Whilst one added: "Such good news!!" In May, 2021 the dental nurse penned an emotional Instagram post to honour skin cancer awareness month and posted graphic images of her own scars after receiving treatment for two cancerous moles.
In the post, she wrote: "MAY is SKIN CANCER awareness month. Don’t normally do posts like this since my operations but it’s weird how I’ve felt I wanted to this year.
"I don’t know if it’s because sunbeds and sunny holidays have been off limits for so long that there now is such a buzz about them that there wasn’t before? Keep seeing and hearing so many people saying how they’ve “hammered the sunbeds” and “can’t wait to get away to fry myself” so maybe that’s why this year is the year.
"Anyway ...I’m absolutely not here to preach to people not to use sunbeds or go on holiday and get a tan but just please be careful. Everyone always thinks “it won’t happen to me” just like I did and then it WAS me.
She added: "If you do anything this month please check any moles/freckles incase they have changed or incase new ones have appeared. If you are worried SEE your GP."
Two months ago she revealed she had further tests which revealed that cancer 'had chosen her again'. She told her Instagram followers she had to undergo further tests, a biopsy and three surgeries before being faced with an anxious six week wait for her results.
She wrote: "ROUND 2. This time last year I posted to try and raise awareness around skin cancer - totally unaware that it had chosen me again.. After some tests and a biopsy in February, I underwent surgery yesterday to remove some more areas. Now for recovery and the anxious 6 week wait for final results."
