On a day of farewells, it’s been Jeff Stelling’s final day on the Sky Sports goal show. Sky a are currently showing a moving montage of some of his best bits. It’s great.
The four pundits with him give him a standing ovation as we cut back to the studio, a lovely moment. Even the usually unflappable Jeff looks emotional. He pays tribute to the whole Sky Sports family, top to bottom. A classy sign off from a classy operator.

“It’s professional suicide. You prepare for a game, you get the players down here, put in some tactics, you look at the opposition’s strengths and weaknesses and then try to play the game as best you can.
“But when you do what you do in the game, football in those moments, the errors are huge errors and Harry Kane is going to take full advantage. We messed up again. We tried to find our way back and then we mess up again in a big way.
“Our response to going 1-0 down was very good but unfortunately with a huge amount of attempts, I think we had 20 or 21, only two were on target and that probably says it all for Leeds this season … You want to go out with some pride but unfortunately I didn’t see that sadly.”

“Everton extended Abdoulaye Doucouré’s contract earlier this week and the midfielder repaid them by extending their residence in the top flight of English football into a 70th year. The midfielder struck a quite superb goal to seal the victory Sean Dyche’s team desperately needed over Bournemouth to avoid a first relegation since 1951.”
And Everton manager Sean Dyche talking to Sky Sports: “Magic day but we shouldn’t be in this shape. It’s a big club and we’ve got to get it back to being one on the pitch as well as off the pitch.”

We’ve got some correspondence from Kari Tulinius. “Hello Will, it seems to me that Leicester possibly, even probably, getting relegated should be the biggest news of the day. I realise that Everton are the more storied club, but it seems mad to me that 2016’s national champions and 2021’s FA Cup winners are staring relegation in the face, especially since they came to represent the hope that a club outside the biggest three or four could win trophies.”
It’s been a rollercoaster few years for Leicester fans, no doubt about it, but they aren’t done quite yet. It’s still goalless at the King Power and Goodison Park, but a goal for Leicester would haul them above Everton on goal difference.
