Burnley 3-1 Crawley Town
Leicester City 3-0 Newport County
Milton Keynes Dons 2-0 Morecambe
Stevenage 1-1 Charlton Athletic (Charlton won 5-4 on pens)
Thanks for reading this Clockwatch. Nighty night!
PENALTIES: Brentford 5-6 Gillingham. Mikael Mandron is up first for the Gills. He scores. Ivan Toney then slots into the bottom right. A precedent is set. Eight more perfect penalties, and we’re into sudden death. Then the thin line between success and failure is writ large: Alex MacDonald’s effort hits the underside of the bar and flies in, Mikkel Damsgaard’s cannons off the face of the bar and back out. The League Two side, 77 places below their Premier League opponents, are through to the fourth round!

It was an easy win for Leicester over Newport this evening, but poor James Justin suffered some more cruel luck. He scored a peach in the first half, but the versatile full back, who recently missed a year with an ACL injury, was stretchered off in the second, and his World Cup dreams could be up in smoke. Ben Fisher was at the King Power on a bittersweet night for the 24-year-old defender.
FULL TIME: Brentford 1-1 Gillingham. They’re going to penalties at the Brentford Community Stadium.
PENALTIES: Stevenage 4-5 Charlton. The Addicks go through after a tense penalty shoot-out. The first eight kicks were converted, but then Joe Wollacott saved from Jake Taylor, and Scott Fraser lashed the winning kick into the bottom right.

GOAL! Brentford 1-1 Gillingham (Mandron 75). Out of nowhere! There’s been only one team in it all night, but Mikael Mandron gets on the end of a whipped right-wing cross and guides a header into the top right from close range. The League Two side are on terms against the Premier League club!

The full-times
AFC Bournemouth 4-1 Everton
Brentford 1-0 Gillingham (L, kick-off delayed by 20 mins)
Bristol City 1-3 Lincoln City
Burnley 3-1 Crawley Town
Leicester City 3-0 Newport County
Milton Keynes Dons 2-0 Morecambe
Stevenage 1-1 Charlton Athletic (pens to be taken)
The full-time whistle goes at Dean Court. A fair bit of booing from the away end as Everton crash out 4-1. Frank Lampard looks as grim as Everton’s defending tonight. Demarai Gray goes over to the fans, holding out palms of apology, and acknowledging their annoyance with a nod, before handing someone his shirt. His fine goal was the only high point on a bleak night for the Toffees.
Updated
GOAL! Burnley 3-1 Crawley (Zaroury 90). Crawley push for the equaliser at Turf Moor. Burnley counter, and Anass Zaroury wraps it up. So close but yet so far for the League Two side against the Championship leaders.
GOAL! Stevenage 1-1 Charlton (Aneke 87). Chuks Aneke salvages the situation late on for the Addicks. Penalties ahoy!
Updated
GOAL! Bournemouth 4-1 Everton (Anthony 82). The away fans were pretty miffed when their team went 2-0 down. They’re positively boiling now as Jaidon Anthony shimmies on the penalty spot, dipping a hip to make time, before calmly firing home. Oh Frank.
Updated
GOAL! Leicester City 3-0 Newport (Vardy 82). Jamie Vardy is sent scampering clear down the middle. Instead of dinking one over the keeper, he drops a shoulder to round him, then sits a defender down before belting home.
Updated
GOAL! Bristol City 1-3 Lincoln (Conway 80). Tommy Conway slots a consolation for Bristol City. It can only be a consolation, right?
GOAL! Burnley 2-1 Crawley (Zaraoury 79). Crawley have battled bravely, but the Championship leaders send on the cavalry, and Anass Zaroury whips home from close range.
Updated
GOAL! Bournemouth 3-1 Everton (Marcondes 78). It’s all Everton as they chase an equaliser against Bournemouth, who must be worrying about letting yet another two-goal lead slip … and then suddenly the home side launch a counter. Jamal Lowe’s shot is parried by Asmir Begovic, and Emiliano Marcondes slams home the rebound.
Updated
GOAL! Leicester City 2-0 Newport (Vardy 70). The old boys still have it! A cross whipped in from a deep position on the right by Marc Albrighton. Vardy meets it just inside the box with a header that flashes across the Newport keeper and into the bottom left. Lovely finish.
Updated
GOAL! Bournemouth 2-1 Everton (Gray 67). Demarai Gray comes off the bench to curl one into the top right from distance. A peach. Bournemouth have been two goals up in their previous two matches, and have gone on to lose both of them. It’s not happening again, is it?
Another fallow period … another opportunity to whistle through a classic Joy of Six.
HALF TIME: Brentford 1-0 Gillingham. Ivan Toney’s goal is the difference in the game delayed by 20 minutes due to the Gills being caught in heavy traffic.
GOAL! MK Dons 2-0 Morecambe (Dennis 51). Half-time substitute Matthew Dennis didn’t take long to make his mark. He prepares to shoot from the edge of the box. He gets his shirt pulled … but as he falls backwards, he whips a stunning rising shot into the top left.
GOAL! Bristol City 0-3 Lincoln (O’Connor 49). Nigel Pearson makes a slew of half-time changes. It makes no difference. Paudie O’Connor puts the finishing touches to a game of head tennis in the Bristolian six-yard box, and Lincoln are on course to make round four for only the second time in their history.
Updated
GOAL! Bournemouth 2-0 Everton (Stanislas 47). The six matches that kicked off on time at 7.45pm are all underway again … and it hasn’t taken long for Bournemouth to double their lead at Dean Court. Mason Holgate slips under no pressure, shipping possession, and a couple of passes later, Junior Stanislas is slamming home from close range. Everton have never won this competition and their long wait to break that strange duck looks likely to last yet another year.

Brentford 1-0 Gillingham (L, kick-off delayed by 20 mins)
Bristol City 0-2 Lincoln City
Burnley 1-1 Crawley Town
Leicester City 1-0 Newport County
Milton Keynes Dons 1-0 Morecambe
Stevenage 1-0 Charlton Athletic
Everton are extremely fortunate not to be down to ten men. Anthony Gordon absolutely scythes through the back of Jordan Zemura, studs showing, in the air, out of control, no chance whatsoever of getting the ball. Pretty much the full house, really, but it’s just a booking. Bournemouth remain 1-0 up.
GOAL! Leicester City 1-0 Newport (Justin 44). Well this was worth waiting for! James Justin sails in from the right flank and aims a curly pearler into the top-left corner from 25 yards.

It’s an evening for the purists. Nothing going on. To assist you in the further whiling away of time …
In lieu of action …
GOAL! Burnley 1-1 Crawley (Barnes 24). Ashley Barnes makes up for his earlier miss by meeting a deep left-wing cross and steering a header into the top-left corner. Not such a great day out for Telford et al now.
GOAL! Brentford 1-0 Gillingham (Toney 3). In the late kick-off, an early lead for the hosts. Mikkel Damsgaard brings down a high ball with a heavenly touch, and rolls across for Ivan Toney, who can’t miss from six yards.
Updated
GOAL! Burnley 0-1 Crawley (Telford 22). Ellery Balcombe in the Crawley goal blooters long. Dominic Telford suddenly finds himself clear. In it goes! Easy as that. Charles Reep would love this one.
GOAL! Stevenage 1-0 Charlton (Norris 22 pen). Luke Norris gives Stevenage the lead against the 1947 FA Cup winners from the spot.
“It pains me to see the juxtaposition of ‘Lincoln’ and ‘Virtue’ on a day when a badly divided U-S-A! U-S-A!! U-S-A!!! is heading to the polls.” Peter Oh, ladies and gentlemen, fielding the political satire so I don’t have to.
GOAL! MK Dons 1-0 Morecambe (O’Hora 18). Warren O’Hora gives MK Dons the lead against fellow League One strugglers Morecambe, pearling a glorious diagonal volley into the bottom right from 12 yards.
Updated
GOAL! Bristol City 0-2 Lincoln (House 15). In the centre circle, Ben House shoves young central defender Joe Low off the ball with some candy-baby energy, strides towards the Bristol City box, and slams home. A shock on the cards here, as the League One side double their lead over the Championship men.
Ashley Barnes sees Davies’s rush of blood and raises him a scooped sitter at Turf Moor. He hoicks over from inside the six-yard box when it was surely easier to slot, and it remains Burnley 0-0 Crawley.
Tom Davies has just missed a sitter for Everton at Dean Court. Sent clean through down the middle by Anthony Gordon, he blazes wildly over from the edge of the box. A proper rush of blood to the noggin. It remains 1-0 to Bournemouth.
GOAL! Bristol City 0-1 Lincoln (Virtue 6). An absolute belter, this one. Matty Virtue takes a touch in from the left flank and sends a heatseeker into the top left. The net bulged in a very pleasing goalframe-foundations-testing fashion.
Updated
GOAL! Bournemouth 1-0 Everton (Lowe 7). Jamal Lowe’s curling shot is deflected off Nathan Patterson and loops over a stranded Asmir Begovic. Gary Naylor’s nightmare didn’t take long to start unfolding.

It’s kick-off time in the EFL Cup, then … with the sole exception of Brentford v Gillingham, which has been put back to 8.05pm after the visitors were caught in traffic.
