Leicester set James Maddison price ahead of England star entering final year of contract

James Maddison could be set to leave Leicester this summer - and the Foxes have slapped a £50million price tag on his head amid rumours linking him with a move to Tottenham and Newcastle.

The 26-year-old has been in fine form for the East Midlands side this season, scoring nine goals and providing six assists across 24 matches in all competitions. Maddison's recent performances also earned him his full England debut last month as he started the 2-0 win over Ukraine.

It was an impressive display from Maddison, who has could be on the move from relegation-threatened Leicester at the end of the season. Maddison has just over a year left on his contract and has been tipped to make the switch to another Premier League team.

Newcastle were keen to sign Maddison last summer and revived their interest in the former Norwich playmaker in January but were unable to get a last-minute deal over the line. Manchester City had also joined the queue of clubs wanting Maddison in the winter transfer window, however, the midfielder stayed at the Foxes.

Now, with his contract set to expire in 2024, it looks increasingly likely Maddison will depart the King Power Stadium this summer - five years after making the £24m move from Norwich. He won the FA Cup in his third season at Leicester, while also helping them to back-to-back top five finishes and a European semi-final.

With his exit looming, the Telegraph have reported that Leicester will demand £50m for Maddison's services. By the time the summer window opens, Maddison will have a year left on his current deal and it doesn't seem like he will want to sign an extension either, with the Foxes on course to return to the Championship.

Tottenham are another one of several Premier League teams interested in Maddison. Spurs could be set for an overhaul of their squad following the departure of Antonio Conte and then a new manager coming in, which may see a change of style and formation.

Currently Spurs play without a natural no.10 and instead with a no.6 and a no.8, meaning there would be no space for Maddison in that system. However, a tweak in approach could see Maddison be needed in the Tottenham team and they are said to be interested in a move for him.

Newcastle, meanwhile, have been long-standing admirers and Champions League football could be a real attraction for Maddison should the Magpies qualify for that competition. Eddie Howe's side are on the up and Maddison could slot into the heart of their midfield alongside Bruno Guimaraes and Sean Longstaff or Joelinton.

Arsenal were said to want Maddison before they managed to get a deal over the line for Martin Odegaard in the summer of 2021 and are unlikely to pursue a move with regular game time not guaranteed. Manchester United were also credited with an interest back in 2020, while Man City could come back in this summer.
