Leicester City handed triple injury boost ahead of Leeds United relegation six pointer

James Maddison will be back for Leicester City to face Leeds United having recovered from a bout of illness according to Foxes' boss Dean Smith. The England international was due to face Wolves at the weekend, but experienced a sickness bug overnight.

The midfielder said he was “devastated” not to play a part, but it didn't matter with the Premier League strugglers picking up an important three points. Smith believes Maddison will be back in training on Monday with winger Harvey Barnes, who has missed the last two games with a hamstring injury, also on track to return against the Whites and has scored in his last five appearances against the Whites

Smith told Leicester Live after the 2-1 win over Wolves: “I got the dreaded call this morning from the grim reaper, the doctor, who told me (Maddison) had been ill during the night and that he wasn’t going to be available. But he should be available for Tuesday. I’d hope he will be ready to train on Monday.

“Harvey is going to train tomorrow. As well as the win today, we’ve got a double boost of two top players coming back to fitness as well.”

Smith was also not overly concerned about Jamie Vardy who was taken off at half-time having taken a whack from Jose Sa, winning a penalty for his side, preventing him from taking the spot-kick. The Leicester striker was seen moving gingerly but the Foxes manager is not worried about his fitness.

Smith said: “He’s okay. I think you saw from the eight minutes after he came back on, after the penalty, he went charging around.

“But it gave me the option to pull him out of it. He’d done the job we needed him to. He got on to the end of a through ball, which he does best.

"When you play balls in those areas for him, he’s the best at it as we’ve seen over the years. I have no qualms over him being able to do that, but we need those balls first and foremost.

“At half-time, we just decided to make that change. We already had three forwards on the pitch so I just felt we needed an extra midfielder. I thought it worked really well.”
