Leicester City could be without Jamie Vardy and four others for Liverpool clash

Leicester City could be without five players, including Jamie Vardy, for the clash against Liverpool on Thursday night.

While there were no fresh injuries to report in Brendan Rodgers' pre-match press conference, his Foxes side remain without Vardy, who has been sidelined with a hamstring injury since the reverse Premier League fixture in December.

Wesley Fofana (fibula), Jonny Evans (hamstring), Timothy Castagne (thigh) and Ryan Bertrand (knee) are also expected to be absent for the game at Anfield.

Leicester were, however, handed a boost with the return of Ricardo Pereira for their FA Cup defeat to Nottingham Forest on Sunday, the Portuguese international had recovered from a leg injury.

Rodgers issued a squad update, but insisted they won't be using the injuries as an 'excuse'.

"It’s pretty much the same squad from the weekend’s game, there's no fresh injuries," he told lcfc.com.

“It’s just been one of those seasons [with injuries], but we’ve never tried to use it as an excuse.

“If you’re missing that level of player, that can affect the quality of your game.

“There’s been opportunities for other players to come in and play.

“Amidst all the issues we’ve had, we’re sitting in a mid-table position, but we want to climb upwards."

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has been handed a squad boost this week as Mohamed Salah returned to training on Tuesday after Egypt were beaten in the Africa Cup of Nations final by Senegal.

Sadio Mane, the Senegal captain, is yet to return to Merseyside following celebrations in his home nation and will therefore play no part in Thursday night's clash against the Foxes.

Jordan Henderson sustained a issue with his back in the FA Cup win over Cardiff City on Sunday, but will be assessed ahead of the match against Rodgers' side.
