Legendary off-Las Vegas Strip venue adds unlikely adult show

To be fair, while he did force Princess Leia into wearing a metal bikini, Jabba the Hut actually went fully nude himself.

The famous space slug also checks off a lot of boxes as Hutts change genders throughout their lives. So, in the burlesque world, the crime syndicate leader would have to be considered versatile.

Realistically, Star Wars has never been considered all that sexy. Aside from the much-criticized Princess Leia bikini scene and the creepy kiss between Leia and Luke, who would later learn they are brother and sister, Star Wars has traditionally been a PG series when it comes to romance.

Sure, Chewbacca and Ewoks don't wear proper clothes, but this is actually a universe where a lot of people wear robes, body armor, and other very non-sexy outfits.

Yes, there was the romance between Leia and Han Solo, and Padme Amidala and Anakin Skywalker had an implied torrid affair, but Star Wars — aside from what's implied every time a lightsaber gets turned on — has always been a pretty chaste affair.

That's all about to change on the Las Vegas Strip. If you have ever thought, what if someone reimagined the Star Wars universe in vaguely sexy way, well, the theater that used to house the long-running Chippendales show may have your answer.

Finally, Las Vegas gets a Star Wars burlesque show

Burlesque is a provocative form of dance that often involves elaborate costumes, scantily clad people, and suggestive dialogue. It's sort of an evolved form of striptease which is more about art than being sexy.

It's appararently also a form that can be used for parody. At least that's what's being tried at the former Chippendales Theater at The Rio when “The Empire Strips Back: A Burlesque Parody” opens on May 4.

The show, which has played in variouls cities around the country will be at The Rio on an open-ended engagement. (Basically, if people buy tickets the run will be extended.

More Las Vegas:

"A Star Wars Burlesque Parody The Empire Strips Back is taking the galaxy by storm! Prepare for a one-of-a-kind evening full of comedy, allure, and sci-fi, dropping the saga’s most iconic characters into the world of burlesque. It’s simply out of this world," the shows shared on its website.

Star Wars as you have never seen it

Walt Disney, as you might imagine, has nothing to do with this "Star Wars" production. It's a parody that does not actually license any of the company's intellectual property.

The show's producers certainly are having fun with the source material.

"Experience a unique blend of seduction and sci-fi as 'The Empire Strips Back' takes you on a journey to the dark side! This tantalizing burlesque experience brings beloved characters to life with loving detail and humor that will leave you laughing and swooning at the same time," the show's website shared.

It's a show that clearly plays off Star Wars nostalgia more than an attempt to be overly adult.

"These are the droids you're looking for! Sultry Stormtroopers, a dangerously enticing Boba Fett, and a lady-like Skywalker are just a few of the surprises awaiting in a stunning intergalactic show where the Force is strong and the allure is even stronger," it added.

You have to be 18 or older in order to see the show. "The Empire Strips Back" does not actually contain any nudity. It's a 2-hour show with a 15-minute intermission.
