Popular Japanese manga creator, Leiji Matsumoto, has died of heart attack aged 85, news agency Reuters reported citing local media from Tokyo.
Leiji Matsumoto is famously known for "Galaxy Express 999" and "Space Pirate Captain Harlock".
Heart attack in people aged more than 60 years is more common than it is in young people though its occurrence in the latter group has increased in recent years.
Heart attack occurs when the artery that sends blood and oxygen to the heart is blocked. Fatty cholesterol deposits block the flow of blood as a result of which the tissue loses oxygen and dies.
Heart attack is characterized by tightness in the chest which feels like a throbbing pain. The person also experiences pain in the chest which radiates to neck, back or arms and also the jaws. Unexplained pain in the limbs and also in the neck and jaw areas should not be ignored.
Shortness of breath, pain in the limbs, chest pain are the early symptoms of heart attack. Quick medical help can help the person.
Heart attack is different from cardiac arrest as in the latter the person's heart stops pumping blood and they stop breathing normally. However, in both heart complications timely medical assistance is required.
Born on January 25, 1938 Leiji Matsumoto grew up watching American cartoons. He was 7 years old when World War II had ended. "His work was informed by his wish for people not to experience war and to live for the earth," Reuters reported. "Human beings should make efforts to protect all living creatures and nature on earth," he told public broadcaster NHK in 2015.
He moved to Tokyo at the age of 18 to become a manga artist.
