Leeds weather on Thursday as UK warned of 70mph winds and rain

Brits are preparing themselves for a torrid few days with rain, wind and storms forecast in the UK.

Heavy rain will lash the nation over the coming days, alongside a risk of thunder and some of the highest winds charted this year so far. Yellow wind warnings are in place for parts of southern England and south Wales, lasting from 9pm tomorrow until midday on Friday.

In Leeds, the Met Office says there should be light rain changing to sunny intervals by early evening. There are significant chances of heavy rains around lunchtime.

There are also warnigs for UV light and pollen as the season changes. The Met Office said: "Mild on Thursday with sunny spells and isolated showers, these perhaps locally heavy at times. A gentle breeze throughout. Maximum temperature 15 °C."

The Met Office also says: "Strong winds may affect parts of southern England and south Wales during Thursday evening and Friday morning."

On the expected gales, AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist and Lead European Forecaster, Tyler Roys, said: “A wind storm is likely to be racing into southern England. The strong winds from this storm are likely to be across southwest England and the coastal regions of the English Channel."
