Leeds weather on Monday as 'coldest March ever' set to bring snow soon

Leeds weather is forecast to be cloudy on Monday, February 27, with a high probability of rain between 10am and 2pm.

But, the biggest story will certainly be the warning that snow could hit the UK in March. The warning is so strong that bookies have even slashed the odds on snow and frost to hit Leeds in March.

The recent events in the atmosphere, like the Polar Vortex and the Sudden Stratospheric Warming (SSW) are being blamed for the likelhood that temperatures could plummet. Although February was dry, the SSW and the Polar Vortex caused fears of a return of the Beast from the East.

The Met Office says Leeds is not of the Beast from the East 2 yet. March is set to be among the coldest we have ever seen. Met Office meteorologist Tom Morgan said: “It does look like the month will begin on the cold side. There is quite a chilly week to come. The first week is likely to see temperatures below average but not exceptionally so.

“But from next weekend onwards there are some small indications we will see winds switch to a northerly direction and that will bring much colder conditions southwards. It is going to be Scotland and the north eastern parts of the UK that are likely to see any snow from that spell.

For Monday weather, A spokesperson for the Met Office said: "A cloudier day than yesterday, with a continued scattering of showers, most likely in the latter part of the day. Temperatures near normal but feeling chillier in the wind. Maximum temperature 8 °C."
