Residents have since spoken out following the tragic events and state “this isn’t something we would usually see around here.”

A woman who lives nearby said she was shocked to hear of the man's death and described the events as “awful”. However, she doesn't believe the man is local to the area as “everyone around here knows each other.”

She said: “This is the type of village where people complain about dog poo and kids making loads of noise in the park on Facebook. This isn’t something we would usually see around here. I’ve seen people walking around the street to have a look because this isn’t normal for around here.

Following unconfirmed rumours of a knife attack, she added: “We just have concerns for our safety whether it's safe to go out and play, and stuff like that."

The woman, who did not wish to be named, added that she hoped it was just an isolated incident.

Another woman said she had been making officers tea and coffee while they guarded the cordon. She said she didn’t know much about what had happened but added: “It’s really sad news.

“Police have been there all night and all I know is what I have seen online. It’s awful.”

Police have urged people who witnessed anything or has any information that could assist the investigation to contact Leeds District CID via 101 quoting reference 13220149964 or online.
