Leeds United warned over costly lasting impact of Crystal Palace 'capitulation'

Clinton Morrison believes Leeds United's second half capitulation against Crystal Palace could prove costly at the end of the season.

Leeds dominated large periods of the first half and took the lead through Patrick Bamford's header after 21 minutes. However, Marc Guehi equalised on the cusp of half-time, and Palace ran riot in the second half.

Jordan Ayew headed the Eagles into the lead shortly after the interval, and Eberechi Eze doubled their advantage moments later.

Odsonne Edouard was then sent through on goal by Michael Olise, who registered a hat-trick of assists, to add a fourth for Palace. Ayew compounded Leeds' misery by bagging his brace 13 minutes from time.

Leeds sit 16th in the Premier League, and just two points clear of danger, and Morrison has warned that goal difference could play a huge role in the battle for survival this season.

"Massively fell apart. For 44 minutes Leeds were the better team. Marc Guehi scoring before half-time probably gave Roy Hodgson a different half-time team talk but he still would've been frustrated but they were brilliant," Morrison told Sky Sports News.

"The only reason they didn't score more goals was because Sam Johnstone was excellent for Palace and made three or four great saves but I can't believe the way they capitulated in the second half.

"Everybody was saying that they can't believe Palace went there and scored five goals. Palace were good and Olise and Eze were outstanding, Jordan Ayew scored an excellent header.

"They will be disappointed because come the end of the season it could come down to goal difference and that is an extra point they will miss out on."
