Leeds United have been urged to make a move on ‘no-brainer’ Sonny Perkins after the 18-year-old’s contract expires this summer. The Whites have been eyeing the striker for some time now after it became clear that there would be no new contract at West Ham, but face competition from Aston Villa.
Perkins scored 10 goals in 20 appearances as part of the Hammers’ under-23s side, but managed just three Premier League minutes last season as a substitute during his side’s 3-2 defeat to Leeds. Is now looking for more regular first-team action elsewhere and has been tipped to come to Elland Road.
And TEAMTalk editor and Leeds United fan James Marshment has backed the Whites to make a move on the teenager in what he described as a ‘no-brainer’.

“It looks like he’s going to be moving on. His agent’s in talks with, if we’re led to believe, Leeds and Aston Villa. And it seems like a move is imminent for him.” Marshment told The Leeds Transfer Show on YouTube.
“So potentially you could be getting a really, really good player for a real knockdown fee. And if it works out and you’ve got a great attacker in your mix, then in three or four years time you’d be talking about a £20m or £30m player. So you know I think it’s a no-brainer if we can get that one done.”
Bringing in Perkins on a free could be a great piece of business if completed, with Victor Orta moving again to strengthen the youthful core at the club. Perkins’ demands of more first-team football may be hard to fulfil though, and while there will definitely be more than the three minutes picked up last season the striker will still be some way down the pecking order.
In addition to potentially picking up the youngster, the Whites remain in the market for a top-class striker who can compete with Patrick Bamford and Joe Gelhardt directly. The likes of Rodrigo and Sam Greenwood will also remain as key options in the deeper role of the front two.
Perkins would still be a brilliant signing for Leeds and will surely grow into one of the country’s bright young talents, and as a free deal it is most definitely a no-brainer.
