Leeds United under-23 player ratings as Mateo Joseph impresses despite West ham thrashing

Leeds United (4-2-3-1)

1 Dani van den Heuvel

Conceded five, but helpless for just about all of them. Made some good stops along the way and kept the score down. 6

2 Harvey Sutcliffe

Run ragged by Armstrong Okoflex down his flank. Got forward and tried to contribute in the final third when he could. 4

4 Jeremiah Mullen

The 17-year-old stood up well at points despite the age and experience of the home attack. Predictably, got caught out a few times, but not calamitous. 5

5 Leo Hjelde

Sloppy pass to a West Ham forward directly led to a swift home equaliser. Showed good anticipation when clearing off the line, but this looked pretty rusty. 4

3 Liam McCarron

One of the bright spots on a difficult afternoon in Romford. Was bullish with his runs out of defence down the left flank and totted up some decent yardage with his dribbling. 6

6 Jack Jenkins (c)

Could not find the base for control or possession Leeds needed in the middle. Forced to do a lot of defending and didn't seem to have any say on proceedings. 5

8 Lewis Bate

Some attractive passing, but like Jenkins, did not give Leeds a platform for controlling the game in any way aside from a decent pocket at the start of the second half. 5

7 Max Dean

A largely anonymous afternoon down the right channel for Dean. Whenever he did get his head down and drive he went down some blind alleys. 4

10 Sean McGurk

Popped up in decent pockets and tried to give Leeds options, but the task was too big for him to manage on his own. 5

11 Amari Miller

Like Dean, struggled to have any attacking sway on the game and looked lost at points. 4

9 Mateo Joseph

By far the visitors' best player. Took his goal excellently and never stopped running all afternoon. Ran the channels, tracked back, made tackles, got attacks started from deep. Always seemed to be giving the defenders something to think about even if they were more than equal to most of his attempts. 7

Substitutes

12 Darryl Ombang

14 Stuart McKinstry

15 Joseph Snowdon (on for Dean 69min)

No real impact on the match. 5

16 Charlie Allen (on for McGurk 80min)

Late switch. N/A

17 Kris Moore (on for Hjelde h/t)

Miserable half for the defender, who managed to give away two stonewall penalties as well as pick up a yellow card. 3
