Leeds United U21s' predicted line-up for Southampton clash as key first team quartet set to play

Leeds United’s Under-21s are set to name a strong side for Friday night’s clash with Southampton Under-21s at Elland Road. The young Whites will be looking to build on their unbeaten start to the season and Michael Skubala will be boosted with the involvement of several first team players.

In goal, Kristoffer Klaesson could start for the first time at any level this season after an injury hit start to his campaign. Harry Christy has been the man between the sticks in each of the last three matches.

The back four is expected to have a strong first-team feel to it with Luke Ayling, Liam Cooper and Junior Firpo all starting as they continue their recovery from injury. Kris Moore could be the man chosen to complete the defence at centre back.

Alfie McCalmont – who failed to secure a loan move during the summer – could return to his favoured central midfield role after filling in at left back against Nottingham Forest. He is likely to be joined by impressive duo Darko Gyabi and Archie Gray, with the latter expected to be the most advanced of the three midfielders.

In attack Sonny Perkins and Patrick Bamford’s involvement have both already confirmed. Who joins them two is up for debate, though, with Mateo Joseph, Amari Miller and Sean McGurk all pushing. The latter could get the nod as he is the most suited to playing off the left.

Predicted XI: Kristoffer Klaesson; Luke Ayling, Kris Moore, Liam Cooper, Junior Firpo; Alfie McCalmont, Darko Gyabi; Sonny Perkins, Archie Gray, Sean McGurk; Patrick Bamford
