Leeds United U21s player ratings as Wilfried Gnonto scores but defence stands out

Kristoffer Klaesson: Produced a superb stop in the first half to block Amad Diallo’s curling free-kick. Handled everything Sunderland threw his way. 8

Cody Drameh: Another strong performance at right-back. He handled Costa Rica international Jewison Bennette well and got forward on a couple of occasions. Hit the post a few moments before Leeds opened the scoring. 8

Harvey Sutcliffe: Took a booking early on for bringing down Manchester United loanee Amad Diallo, but handled the Ivory Coast international well for a majority of the game. Limped off late in the game. 7

Morten Spencer: A strong performance from the Norwegian, playing out of position. Controlled defensively and provided a firm presence in the air. 8

Kris Moore: Part of a solid defensive line and more than looked the part as he kept PSG-loanee Edouard Michut at bay. 8

Darko Gyabi: Steady away in the middle of the park. Held his own but was tested at times, too. 7

Sonny Perkins: The scoring run comes to end. Perkins never really had a clear chance to score against the Black Cats and struggle to get himself into the game at times. 6

Sam Greenwood: Grew into the game after the break and started to pull the strings in Leeds’ midfield. 7

Mateo Joseph: Came close to scoring in the first half only to see Edouard Michut block his header on the line. Had some bright moments on the ball and constantly looked to get forward. 6

Joe Gelhardt: Cut a frustrated figure at times. Tried hard throughout but couldn’t find too much joy a day after his cameo against Crystal Palace. 6

Wilfried Gnonto: Made a couple of strong driving runs into the area and asked questions of the right-back. Grabbed his first goal in Leeds colours after the break, beating the keeper at the near post with a tidy effort. 7

Charlie Allen (Sutcliffe 81): Came on at left-back and fared reasonably well in the role. 6

Amari Miller (Perkins 90): Emerged too late to make an impact. N/A

Sean McGurk (Gnonto 90): Got a couple of minutes at the end of the game. N/A

Alfie McCalmont (Greenwood 90): Got a couple of minutes at the end of the game. N/A

Subs not used: Harry Christy
