Leeds United U21s player ratings as Charlie Allen and Sam Greenwood impress in Newcastle draw

Dani Van den Heuvel: Could do little about Newcastle’s goals, handled everything else that came his way. Made a big save in the closing minutes. 7

Kris Moore: Steady away on the right side of defence, tested at times but looked safe in possession and kept his man quiet. 7

Diogo Monteiro: A solid showing on his debut. Looked composed in possession, made a couple of decent blocks and looked strong next to Mullen. 7

Jeremiah Mullen: Came close to scoring early doors, but remained composed throughout. 7

Connor Ferguson: A real strong showing down the left. Got forward well but handled the threat of Amadou Diallo down the line well. Was unfortunate to score the equalising own goal. 8

Morten Spencer: A tidy showing in the middle of the park. Picked out several defence splitting passes and forced a couple of fine saves out of the Newcastle keeper. 7

Darko Gyabi: Gave the ball away for Newcastle’s first, played well in the middle other than that. Created a couple of chances late in the game that should have led to goals. 7

Charlie Allen: A superb first half from the Northern Irishman. Showcased his pace and tenacity to set up Leeds’ first before grabbing the second, capitalising on some fine play from McGurk. 9

Sam Greenwood: In the side after struggling for first-team chances in recent weeks. Enjoyed himself in the number 10 role and created chaos with his tenacity. 8

Sean McGurk: Created Leeds’ second by advancing into the Newcastle box with a bit of trickery before picking out Allen. Carried the ball well throughout. 8

Mateo Joseph: Got Leeds on the scoreboard early and enjoyed a strong first half. His influence waned in the second. 7

Marley Wilson (Allen 62): Showcased his ability down the line but couldn’t make too much of an impact on the game. 6

Luca Thomas (Greenwood 62): Messed up a glaring opportunity to bag the winner at the end of the game. Won the free-kick that saw Newcastle reduced to 10-men. 6

Cian Coleman (McGurk 68): Looked to make things happen late in the game. 6

Subs not used: Harry Christy, James Debayo.
