Leeds United U21s dealt setback to promotion push plans after Stoke City complication

Leeds United U21s have seen this evening’s clash with Stoke City U21s called off due to a waterlogged pitch. The Premier League 2 Division 2 fixture was due to be played at Nantwich Town’s Swansway Stadium, but wet conditions have seen the contest postponed.

The game will be rearranged with a new date to be announced in due course. Paco Gallardo’s side currently sit at the summit of the league table, three points clear of nearest rivals Nottingham Forest.

Consequently a win over the Potters tonight would have bolstered their hopes of promotion considerably, with just three rounds of fixtures remaining. However, the Whites will now have to wait for the opportunity to pick up the points they need to get over the line.

Leeds’ next fixture is currently scheduled for Sunday, April 23, when Middlesbrough travel to the LNER Community Stadium in York. There is the chance that United could surrender their spot at the top of the table in that time, though, with Forest due to play three times before Leeds’ next scheduled outing.

United know, though, that seven points over their final three games would be enough to seal promotion back to the top flight of English youth football at the first time of asking. The U21s are due to round off their season with a trip to West Bromwich Albion and that game is scheduled for Friday, April 28.
