Leeds United transfers pave the way for Whites to break with Kinnear-Orta tradition

Summer recruitment at Leeds United has paved the way for a long-overdue cup run at Elland Road, according to Angus Kinnear. The chief executive has acknowledged the club’s recent record has been appalling in the cups, but a tactical overhaul and summer spending spree has moved the goalposts for Whites' ambitions.

Writing in his programme on Wednesday night, he said: “In the last two years, our laser focus on confounding the odds to retain our Premier League status meant the two cups couldn’t receive the priority we all wanted to give them. This season is different as have the tactical foundations and the squad depth to mount campaigns on three fronts.

“Victor and I have particularly poor track records in the cups having witnessed numerous early exits including humiliations at Crawley and Newport. We, therefore, share a personal desire to give supporters a cup run we can be proud of.
