Your Leeds United transfer round-up for Thursday, April 28.
Leeds aim for Targett
Newcastle United loanee Matt Targett is also on the Whites’ radar, according to 90min. The left-back has started all but one game since his January switch to Tyneside - a 1-0 win against his parent club Aston Villa.
Reports suggest a £15million deal is already in place to make his Toon switch permanent in the summer but Leeds are ready to hijack the deal. New claims by 90min also name Leicester and Wolves as interested parties, although Targett is thought to be keen on staying at Newcastle.
Stuart Dallas is the current first-choice left-back under Jesse Marsch and the 26-year-old would provide a more natural option in defence.
More Phillips talk
The Athletic report that Kalvin Phillips is a target for Manchester United at the end of the campaign. An injury-blighted season for the England international has not staved off interest, with his absence highlighted as a key reason for Leeds’ slump.
Phillips would almost certainly leave should the unthinkable happen and the Whites were relegated, with one eye on his World Cup ambitions in November. A move to Old Trafford appears unlikely, given the fact the 26-year-old is a boyhood Leeds fan.
Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba are expected to leave Man Utd this summer = making central midfield one of their top priorities. Newcastle, West Ham United and Liverpool are also keeping tabs on Phillips’ situation.
Toon tug of war
It appears Newcastle and Leeds will be fishing in the same pond again as Turkish outlet HaberTS claims the Magpies are plotting a move for Ugurcan Cakir. The goalkeeper - who has nine caps for Turkey - has been linked with a move to Elland Road and has two years left on his current contract.
Analytical site transfermarkt values Cakir at £16.2million after making 11 clean sheets in the Super Lig for Trabzonspor in 2021-22. Newcastle could become rivals in the transfer market for several leading targets.
