Leeds United transfer rumours: Whites plotting move for Manchester United youngster

A look at the latest Leeds United transfer rumours on Monday, 30 May.

Leeds United one of a number of Premier League clubs interested in James Garner

The Mirror claims Leeds United are one of three Premier League clubs keen on signing Manchester United midfielder James Garner. Leicester City, Southampton and Jesse Marsch's side are all understood to be keen on the midfielder who has excelled on loan at Championship side Nottingham Forest.

The 21-year-old has been one of the standout performers in the Championship this season and it's unclear whether his long-term future will be at Old Trafford after Erik ten Hag's arrival. The new Red Devils boss is set to cast his eye over his squad this summer with the likes of Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard departing Manchester this summer.

A loan move to one of the three aforementioned clubs could prove the best option for for all parties involved. Brendan Rodgers has placed Garner high on his priority list this summer, but they're willing to wait while the Foxes boss considers other options.

Raphinha would prefer Manchester United switch

The Express claims Leeds United star Raphinha would prefer a move to Old Trafford this summer. The Brazilian winger has been linked with a move to Barcelona throughout the previous campaign.

Xavi's side remain the favourites to sign the winger, but the report claims Raphinha would not turn down a reunion with 'big brother' Bruno Fernandes at Manchester United. The pair played alongside each other at Sporting Lisbon and developed an "excellent relationship on and off the field."

Leeds United's Premier League survival means both sides will have to cough up considerably more than the £25million relegation release clause quoted earlier this season. Speaking to The Players’ Tribune last summer, the Brazil international said: “At least that’s the way I see it. Our friendship began even before we became teammates at Sporting.

"Once he knew that I was going there, he texted me saying he was looking forward to playing with me. I know that I would have arrived at the club in a very timid way if I hadn’t known anyone there before, so he really helped me settle quickly.

“Bruno has helped me so much, man. In Portugal we would talk a lot and go out for meals. When I went to Rennes, he advised me. The guy is so clever. When I was on the plane to Leeds, he texted me saying my style would fit the league. He was right again.

“Just being around him is an inspiration because of the way he behaves. At the top level I have never seen anyone work as hard as him. You know it will be very difficult to do what he does, but if you try long enough and listen to what he says, you might get close.

“I like to tell him that the next time we play each other, I’m going to nutmeg him. We always joke around with each other. I’ll see you on the pitch soon, brother. Make sure to keep your legs closed.”
