Leeds United transfer rumours as Whites to target key Portuguese World Cup star in January

Here are your Leeds United transfer news and gossip on Tuesday, November 29.

Leeds United to target key Portuguese World Cup star in January transfer window

Leeds United have reportedly decided that one of their priority targets in the January transfer window will be Borussia Dortmund full-back and Portuguese international Raphael Guerreiro as they see him as an 'ideal fit'.

Having been at Dortmund since 2016, he's managed over 200 appearances for them and has something a good reputation of upfield production - managing 37 goals and 39 assists from his position.

According to TEAMtalk, him and his agent are solely focused on Guerreiro's performance at this year's World Cup where he played the full 90 minutes in Portugal's group stage opener against Ghana where they won 3-2.

However, with his contract at Dortmund running out at the end of the season, the Whites could snatch him up at a fraction of his usual price and finally solve their problems at full-back that have plagued them over the past few years.

While TEAMtalk believe Leeds have significant interest in him, German newspaper Bild argue that Dortmund are unlikely to look to for a move in the winter for Guerreiro as they still hold out hope to get him to sign a new contract.

Transfer journalist Graeme Bailey told TEAMtalk that while Leeds do believe they could grab him in January, they are prepared to hold out for longer if necessary.

"As it stands, it appears Guerreiro is not in a hurry to depart Dortmund. Despite no new deal agreed, he knows clubs such as Leeds are watching. Indeed they were in attendance in the last few weeks.

"He is going to get through the World Cup finals and then assess the situation. Dortmund have a host of issues to resolve, like Moukoko and Bellingham, but Guerreiro is another very much towards the top of their agenda.

"Leeds like Guerreiro a lot, and they think he would be an ideal fit. If he was available in January, I believe they would do it – but they are happy to wait for him until the summer.

"However, I would not rule out the possibility of a loan move although Pascal Struijk has been performing well – he is very much a defensive full-back rather than a wing-back and I believe they may look for another option, although the return of Stuart Dallas could get them through until the summer."

'Better for him': PSV director says Cody Gakpo was right to turn Leeds United down

Former PSV Eindhoven technical director John de Jong has admitted that former Leeds United transfer target Cody Gakpo was right to stay in the Netherlands after snubbing Leeds and their Premier League colleagues Southampton on Deadline Day.

The 23-year-old was subject to serious interest from the Premier League duo in the latter stages of the summer transfer window but, with the Dutch window closing earlier than the English, PSV blocked any potential move with little time to recruit a replacement.

Prior to deadline day the forward had been in impressive form, particularly in Champions League qualifying, and now has a whopping 13 goals and 17 assists in 24 appearances for PSV this campaign.

Who is Boulaye Dia? Leeds United-linked Senegal striker compared to Sadio Mane

Leeds United has been linked with Villarreal striker Boulaye Dia but might have to race against three other Premier League clubs to acquire his services.

After six goals and two assists for US Salernitana 1919 on loan this season, the 26-year-old has been watched by West Ham, Everton and Leicester City as well as the Whites for a move to the English top-flight.

He was included in Senegal's 26-man World Cup squad and has proven himself at the tournament after finding the net in the side's 3-1 win over Qatar for his second goal in Senegalese colours.

If Senegal want to progress from the group, then Dia will need to be a vital part of their success against Ecuador on Tuesday and if they do get a result off the back of the 26-year-old, his price will go up.

With forwards like Patrick Bamford without consistent minutes and a young core of attackers at Jesse Marsch's disposal, bringing in someone with experience abroad and on the big stage like Dia could be great for the Whites as they continue to push up the Premier League table.
