Here is your Leeds United transfer gossip on Thursday, October 13.
Leeds United ready to offer star 'double' his current deal
Leeds United are prepared to offer winger Jack Harrison 'double' his current deal to ward off any potential bidders who could look to coax him away from Elland Road in January.
According to Football Insider, the Whites are prepared to offer Harrison over £80,000 a week in order to keep him at Elland Road, a pay increase that still wouldn't see him overtake Rodrigo as the highest-paid player at Leeds.
Harrison was already the subject of two £20 million+ bids from Premier League rivals Newcastle United but both were rejected by the Whites after being deemed too low.
After his good start to the season, Harrison will be a struggle to lock down if his contract situation isn't resolved before the end of the season - something Leeds themselves had reportedly admitted.
With two years left on his contract right now, it could get even worse for the Whites if he looks to run down his contract meaning less value and more interest in the 25-year-old.
Further Cody Gakpo update suggests Leeds could struggle in January
Leeds United are now incredibly unlikely to sign Cody Gakpo in the January transfer window according to Leeds United journalist Phil Hay.
Gakpo was the source of much interest from the Whites during the summer but they couldn't get the deal over the line.
Now, after his 13-goal, 10-assist start to the season and with the World Cup fast approaching where he's sure to make a big impact for Louis van Gaal's Netherlands squad, it seems less and less likely he'll be making a move to Elland Road.
On The Phil Hay Show, he seemed to cement the rumour that Gakpo will be looking elsewhere for a move after his expectations have shifted.
“I’ve been chatting to somebody about him last week and I think the feeling is more and more that he’s gravitating towards the type of club that you thought he would gravitate towards if he had a good season and if he had a good World Cup.
“He’s done that classic thing of remaining where he was, teams who went for him not signing him – Leeds included – and then his form just exploding; he’s had a really strong start to the season.
“And it’s not that Leeds aren’t still interested in him, it’s not that Leeds wouldn’t love to take him, it’s not that they’re not still talking about it, there just is a general feeling that it’s going to be somewhere else [he goes].
“I think we said that straight after the transfer window closed, that if it was a good season for him, then it was hard to see how Leeds were going to stay in the running.”
