Leeds United transfer rumours as Whites may miss out on 'next Lionel Messi' amid La Liga interest

Here are your Leeds United transfer rumours and gossip on Sunday, March 5.

Leeds United set for 'next Lionel Messi' Ilias Akhomach disappointment amid La Liga interest

Leeds United could be set for a big disappointment as it appears Barcelona youngster Ilias Akhomach is planning a move to La Liga rivals Sevilla instead of switching the Nou Camp for Elland Road.

The Whites were linked to the 18-year-old earlier this week but it appears that he is now in 'advanced talks' with Jorge Sampaoli's side according to Spanish outlet Cadena Ser.

With the youngster's contract expiring in the summer, there were hopes at Elland Road that Spanish chief Victor Orta could potentially pull some strings and bring the starlet over to England but it looks as though that ship has sailed.

Akhomach is yet to play in La Liga this season, but has previously appeared in the Spanish top flight in other seasons under manager Xavi, and has been hailed as 'the next Lionel Messi' by Barcelona's former director Patrick Kluivert.

Leeds United 'right in the mix' to land Championship star even if hit with relegation

Leeds United appear to still be 'right in the mix' to land themselves Coventry City star Viktor Gyokeres even if they get relegated down to the Championship according to transfer journalist Pete O'Rourke.

It's previously been reported that the Swedish frontman could cost the Whites between £10-12 million in the summer transfer window and it'll be hard for the Sky Blues to keep him tied down with in the form he's currently in.

"I think Gyokeres, if Leeds do stay up, could be a good signing," O'Rourke told GiveMeSport. "But even if they go down to the Championship, he looks ready-made to come in to that Leeds team and maybe fire them back to the Premier League.

"So yeah, it's going to be tough, I think, for Coventry to keep hold of Gyokeres this summer with him entering the final year of his contract.

"If he does become available in the summer transfer window, Leeds will be right in the mix to try and sign him."
