Leeds United transfer rumours as Whites face Premier League competition for Benfica star

Here are your Leeds United transfer rumours and gossip for Tuesday, March 14.

Leeds United face 'battle' for Benfica star

Leeds United look set to face competition from fellow Premier League clubs for the signing of Benfica star Alex Grimaldo, according to The Athletic.

Leeds are reportedly keen on signing Benfica left-back Grimaldo, but now it appears that they are not the only top-flight team looking to sign the 27-year-old. David Ornstein claims that both Fulham and Nottingham Forest have held talks with the defender who is set to become a free agent at the expiry of his contract this summer.

Grimaldo played all 180 minutes of Benfica's 7-1 aggregate win over Club Brugge in the Champions League Round of 16 and will likely be one of the most in-demand free signings ahead of the 2023/24 season. Leeds need to strengthen at left-back and appear to believe that the Spanish international will be the perfect addition at Elland Road.

It is still yet to be seen just how hard they might push to convince the Benfica star over the merits of a move to the Premier League, as any deal could well hinge on their own top-flight status being confirmed come May.

Whites 'keen' on Ligue 1 centre-back

Elsewhere, Italian outlet ASRomaLive report that Leeds are interested in signing Lens defender Facundo Medina.

The Argentine has been linked with a move to Elland Road in the past and now it appears the West Yorkshire side are looking to go one step further. With Robin Koch's future still in doubt, Leeds are believed to be looking to the left-footed centre-back in a bid to bolster their squad - regardless of their place in the Premier League next term.

The 23-year-old's versatility means he can also fill in at left-back and Medina has been hotly-tipped to become one of Europe's next best defenders following a superb season so far in France's Ligue 1.
