Here are the latest Leeds United transfer rumours on Thursday, August 11.
Pedro loan
Leeds are reportedly 'close' to signing Watford forward Joao Pedro on loan, according to reports from Italian outlet Tutto Mercato Web. The Whites have also been linked with Pedro’s Watford teammate Ismaila Sarr.
French publication Foot Mercato claimed on Wednesday that negotiations are close to completion for Sarr. The report added that the arrival of the Senegalese international hinges on a departure from Elland Road. However, our understanding is that Leeds are exploring a number of options and while Sarr may have featured on a list of targets, talk of a deal being close is not the case and a deal is not currently expected.
Pedro joined Watford from Fluminense in January 2020 and has scored 14 times in 76 outings for the Hornets. The 20-year-old has featured in each of Watford’s two Championship games this term - scoring the winning goal against Sheffield United in their league opener.
Adams blow
Southampton don’t intend to sell Scottish international forward Che Adams amid interest from Leeds United, according to talkSPORT.
Adams has also been targeted by Everton, Newcastle United and newly promoted Nottingham Forest. The Athletic previously reported that Southampton were willing to offload Adams although talkSPORT understands Saints have changed their mind and have no plans to cash in on the striker.
Leeds face Southampton at St Mary’s on Saturday, looking to build on their winning start against Wolverhampton Wanderers. Saints, meanwhile, will hope to recover from the 4-1 drubbing inflicted on them by Tottenham Hotspur.
Competition for Cifuentes
Brighton & Hove Albion are interested in Leeds United target and Los Angeles FC midfielder Jose Cifuentes, according to a report from Sussex World.
The Seagulls already have two Ecuadorian internationals in their ranks in the shape of Moises Caicedo and Jeremy Sarmiento. Cifuentes is one of the most exciting prospects in Major League Soccer and has scored 12 goals and provided 14 assists in 81 appearances for LAFC.
Cifuentes has played eight times for Ecuador and is expected to represent his nation at this winter’s FIFA World Cup finals in Qatar. He was also part of the Ecuador side that won the U20 South American Championship in 2019.
